Cerritos Optimists hold boys Oratorical Contest


Eight students attending ABC schools participated in the Cerritos Optimist Club’s Annual Oratorical Contest for Boys Mar. 3 held in the Cerritos Library’s Skyline Room. Topic was “If I were the Leader of the Free World. With them are Cerritos Optimist Club President Jamie Hamilton and Oratorical Chair Dr. Bob Green. Taking first place was Dung Hyon Jeon representing Cerritos High School. He was presented a $500 Scholarship check and will go on to Zone competition. What would you do if you were the leader of the free world? Eight students participated in the Cerritos Optimist Club’s Annual Oratorical Contest for Boys Mar. 3. Some of the subjects discussed included ending world poverty and providing world health care for everyone, and ensuring the world citizens had education opportunities available to them, stamping out the modern day pirates on the high seas and a solution to the question of gun control in the United States.
First place went to Dung Hyon Jeon, a student at Cerritos High School who won a $500 scholarship check and will now move on the zone competition. Vighnesh Iyo, a student at Whitney High School, won second place. He received a $300 scholarship check. Third place went to Philip Kng Sugui representing Gahr high School. He received a $200 scholarship check.
The other students, who were congratulated on their presentations included Lavier Buel, Gahr High School; Daniel Yang, Whitney High School, Austin Ha, Ross Middle School, Samuel Costro, Haskell Middle School, and Jacob Aunda, Ross Middle School.
