Soroptimists Put Final Touches on Monte Carlo Night

By Dr. Annalisa Fernando-Langit

The Artesia-Cerritos Chapter of Soroptimists International is making final preparations for their annual Monte Carlo fundraiser scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 7-11 p.m at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts.
Tickets are $65 per person and includes a buffet dinner catered by Turnip Rose, casino style gaming, and prizes. This year, the Soroptimists are excited to be having its first Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament, in which the winner of the event will be awarded a big screen television. Monte Carlo Chair, Christina Alosi, said the event is turning out to be our biggest event ever, thanks to the generous donations of businesses and organizations local and worldwide.
Along with the food and gaming, the evening will be filled with door prizes, gaming prizes and raffle prizes as well as Limited 200 raffle tickets and the Opportunity Drawing where winners need not be present. Some of the fabulous prizes include: VIP tickets to “Dancing With The Stars” and “Live! With Regis & Kelly,” stays at resorts, tickets to sporting events, winery tours and tastings, theatre tickets, restaurant gift cards, a gift card tree valued at more than $700, and much more.
“We all get so excited as we see various prizes coming in from across the country,“ said Soroptimist Co-President Kathy Lovell, “but we are especially appreciative of local businesses who donate because they know the causes we support. Businesses like the City of Cerritos, the City of Artesia, Cerritos Optimist Club, La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, LA County Supervisor Don Knabe, Wal-Mart of Cerritos, Dr. Tae S. Kim, Dr. Terrisa Ha, Bob and Marianne Hughlett, and Fidelity Hearing Center have been generous sponsors of our event. Art venues in La Mirada, Long Beach and Los Angeles have donated theater and museum passes. Many local restaurants also recognize the type of work we do in the community and donate to us even in these tough economic times.”
“We are blessed to have so many generous donations from local businesses and organizations,” explained Soroptimist Co-President, Lou Kaku. “These donations will be used to raise money for local charities such as Su Casa and the Community Family Guidance Center as well as scholarships for local women going back to school so they can better support their families.”
“We are so looking forward to this big night which is themed, An Evening In Casablanca,” Monte Carlo Chair Christina Alosi stated. “We still need lots of people to come out and enjoy the food and fun with the knowledge that all the money raised goes to a good cause.”
Opportunity Tickets, Limited 200 tickets and event tickets can still be obtained by calling Ursula Piotrowski (562 400 7438) or Annalisa Fernando (619 316 1978).
