Artesia, CA- It was “Fat Tuesday” Our Lady of Fatima style for the first grade students at OLF. They kicked off their Mardi Gras celebration with two King Cakes, only a lucky few found the special pennies! The students, who were dressed in beautiful masks, marched behind their vibrant float lead, by their very own King, to Dixieland jazz as they passed out beads to all the teachers. The lively procession headed over to the Artesia Senior Center where they danced, passed out more beads and spoke about the meaning of Mardi Gras, as well as its history.
Student council continued the festivities into lunch with all students having fun before the start of the serious season of Lent. The children learn about this season in their religion classes and are urged to prepare for the Resurrection of the Lord, with the hopes they choose a positive resolution.
