Congratulations to Fiesta Raffle Prize Winners and Early Bird Winners! By Edna Ethington

Pictured at right is Fiesta Chairperson Christine Welsch as she visited the Funnel Cake Booth at the “Tribute to Hollywood“ Fiesta on the St. Irenaeus Church grounds in Cypress. Posing with her are St. Irenaeus Adult Choir members, left to right, Bella Tan, Booth Captain Sabrina Amrikhas, Paulina Nafarrete and Elizabeth Schwedler.

St. Irenaeus Fiesta Committee drew the names of the 2010 Fiesta Raffle Prize winners on the last day of the Fiesta on Sunday, June 27. It is amazing that all the winners this year are registered parishioners! The lucky winner of the Grand Prize of $10,000 was parishioner Rose Pavageau of La Palma. Other winners included Melinda Wittmond of La Palma, 1st Prize Winner of $3,000; Arturo Cordova of Cypress, 2nd Prize Winner of $1,500; and Angelina Story of La Palma, 3rd Prize Winner of $500.

Earlier in the week, the Fiesta Committee announced the Fiesta Raffle Early Bird winners who were selected on the four Sundays prior to the Fiesta weekend. Each winner won $25 for turning in a complete book of 20 raffle tickets that they sold. The Early Bird Raffle Winners by each week were Joe Lao of Fullerton for May 23rd, Adrianna G. Kelly of Anaheim for June 6th, Judy Blashaw of Cypress for June 13th and Grace Boone of Buena Park for June 20th.

Other winners included the winners of the Booth Decorating Contest with the Theme of “A Tribute to Hollywood” who actually received recognition during the Fiesta. The top four winners each received a trophy modeled after the Oscar that movie stars receive and also a certificate. The fifth and sixth place winners received a certificate alone. The Fiesta’s Finest Award was won by the Ping Pong Blower Booth captained by Kamrin Costa. The Grand Prize was won by the Dip Bowl Booth captained by John Elias. Other Booth Winners were 3rd Prize won by the Hamburger/Hotdog/Boy Scout Booth captained by Daniel Martinez; 4th Prize won by the Pepsi Booth with Captains Nina Welsch and Becky Abbott; 5th Prize won by I’ve Got It, captained by Laura Benoit and Jeanne Kilroy; and 6th Prize won by the Cork Gun Booth captained by Joe and Corazon Strattan.

Fiesta Chairperson Christine Welsch said the Fiesta could not be such a great success without the many volunteers who helped to work in the booths and the individuals and businesses who sponsored the booths and donated items. She said that final accounting of the total amount raised by the Parish Fiesta fundraiser will not be completed till all expenses are paid over the next few weeks. Since the weather was ideal for enjoying the outdoor Fiesta and carnival rides, she hopes that the committee will have raised an amount equal to or greater than they raised in previous years.
